Monthly scholarship for students pursuing Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit from Class 9 to PhD, with amounts from ₹500–₹2,500/month and a contingency grant for PhD scholars.

About this scheme

The Central Sanskrit University (CSU) Merit Scholarship is offered under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to encourage students pursuing Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit as a main or optional subject. The scholarship supports students from Class IX to Ph.D. level in recognized institutions through monthly financial assistance and additional benefits for Ph.D. scholars.

Eligibility

  • Subject requirement: Must be pursuing Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit as a main or optional subject in a recognised institution
  • Education level: Open to students from Class IX to Ph.D. level
  • Minimum marks: At least 60% marks in the previous qualifying examination (relaxation: 55% for OBC, 50% for SC/ST/PwD). Applies to both overall aggregate and the Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit subject (paper of at least 100 marks)
  • Language proficiency: Must be able to read and write simple Sanskrit / Pali / Prakrit
  • Exclusivity: Must not be receiving any other government scholarship for the same course
  • Gap year: Must not have a gap year

Benefits

  • Class 9–10: ₹500/month for 10 months
  • Class 11–12: ₹600/month for 10 months
  • UG (Shastri / B.A.): ₹800/month for 10 months
  • PG (Acharya / M.A.): ₹1,000/month for 10 months
  • PhD / Vidyavaridhi: ₹2,500/month for 36 months + Contingency Grant of ₹5,000 per year
